Virgin is seated on a rock covered with a cushion; she holds a tightly swaddled, sleeping baby in her arms. She bows her uncovered head with eyelids lowered. Her costume consists of a sleeveless overdress of heavy fabric edged in fur around hem, sleeves and neck, held at neck by a brooch. The sleeves of the underdress are very full with complete folds and self ruffled cuffs. Halos strongly emenate from both heads. The bench is placed on a craggy platform of earth and set in a panoramic landscape which features a lake and city on the lake to the left. To the right may be generally indicated mountains.
