Black-and-white, hip-length portrait of a man in three-quarters view. He is seated in a wooden chair in front of a dark background, and the left arm of the chair is between the man and the viewer. The man has wavy, white hair and a long beard, and he is wearing a dark, tweed jacket. His chin is resting on his chest and his eyes are closed, as though he is sleeping. There is a light-colored cloth covering his lap. He is holding a dark cane in his proper left hand and another small object in his proper right hand, which is further from the viewer.
