Black-and-white portrait of a man from the waist up, in three-quarters view from his right side, holding a letter. The man is leaning forward slightly and wearing a tweed, three piece suit, a white shirt, and a dark tie. He has short, combed hair that is parted on the left side of his head. He is wearing a monocle over his right eye, which is connected to a cord that hangs down to his vest. He is holding a letter in both hands and he has a ring on the smallest finger of his right hand.
