Black-and-white, waist-length portrait of a woman in three-quarters view turned toward her right side, her face turned toward the viewer. The woman is leaning back slightly, and the source of light comes only from the left side of the image, creating a stark contrast between light and dark in the portrait. She is sitting in front of a black background and she has dark, shoulder-length hair that covers her forehead. She is wearing a white, sleeveless dress, perhaps a nightgown, that is decorated with lace and ribbons, and she has a shawl of the same material draped over her left arm. Her hands are raised to her chest, grasping what appears to be a clock.
