Five floral bunches which have green stems and leaves, small orange flowers and a larger two-toned orange flower in the center. These floral bunches alternate with wreaths of linked rings. Scalloped vine border with small orange flowers. White ground. Variation of the Democrat Rose design. Calendula has the finest quilting of any of the Kretsinger quilts with eleven stitches to the inch. In 1942 Calendula took second place in the quilting category of Women's Day magazine's National Needlework Exhibition. Inscrip: Verso has a label from Women's Day Sweepstakes Prize.
Yellow, orange, and green calico calendulas alternate with linked wreaths inside elaborately stuffed quilting motifs on blocks and border.
