Portrait of woman (identified as Elizabeth, Countess of Ancrum) in fur-trimmed pink dress with white sleeves and an orange sash at the waist. She is looking off to the left. Her hair is piled highly on top of her head. The face is in three-quarters view, looking to the left, not out at the viewer. She has a high coiffure with a piece of pink ribbon. She has pink lips, gray and brown hair, and a rosy complexion. Her proper right hand is propped up at waist height. The background is a dark neutral field. The brushwork in the drapery is much looser than that of the face and hands
