Event Description
Rocket Grants provide direct support for innovative, artist-driven projects in surprising places. The call for proposals for the 7th round of Rocket Grants is now open; the deadline to apply is March 21, 2016. Artists are invited to this info session to gain a clearer understanding of the types of projects the program funds and to learn about the application process. Bring your questions and discover the resources and assistance available to you to make a strong application for a 2016 Rocket Grant. Julia Cole, Rocket Grants Program Coordinator, will provide an overview of the process and Bryon Darby, a 2015 Rocket Grants Award winner, will talk about his team’s experience applying for the grant and how it helped them create the interactive project "Rest Assured, You Are Under Video Surveillance" now in progress in public spaces around Lawrence. Special Project Award recipient Meredith Moore and Research and Development Award recipient George Mayfield also will be available to share their experiences. Rocket Grants support projects that happen outside of traditional or established arts venues, challenge mainstream methods of production or presentation, add energy and diversity to arts activity in our area, and provide opportunities for creative growth. The program awards grants of up to $6,000 to individuals or groups working across all disciplines and media. The Rocket Grants program is a partnership of the Spencer Museum of Art and the Charlotte Street Foundation with funding provided by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
