Leopardi (Il giovane favoloso), a biopic directed by Mario Martone, tells the story of the life and work of poet Giacomo Leopardi (1798-1837). Hailed as a literary genius and the finest Italian writer since Petrarch, Leopardi was an innovative, radical thinker. The film was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 71st Venice International Film Festival in 2014, and also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival the same year. Italian with English subtitles. 143 min. Admission is free and open to the public. The screening is organized in conjunction with a lecture by Franco D’Intino on Leopardi's "Zibaldone" or notebooks of miscellaneous writings, scheduled to take place November 11, from 5-6 PM at the Spencer Research Library.
