Event Description
Experience Indian classical music with two special performances. Purnaprajna Bangere and Amit Kavthekar present The Art of Improvisation. Jeff Harshberger joins them for Melting Boundaries: A Musical Dialogue between East and West. Purnaprajna Bangere studied violin in India under celebrated south Indian violinist HKN Murthy, a student of the legendary Indian musician M. S. Gopalakrishnan. Amit Kavthekar was groomed in the art of tabla playing by Maestro Ustad Allarakha and has studied under several major musicians of Indian classical music. Currently, he teaches Tabla at the New England School of Music in Boston. A prolific composer and bandleader, Jeff Harshberger has recorded and performed across the globe with various artists. He is co-founder of Tzigane Music, an artist-run collective and record label, and organizer of Jeff Harshbarger Presents: An Alternative Jazz Series, promoting new improvised music in Kansas City.
