Event Description
Dr. Steven Duval, post-doctoral researcher with the Arts Research Collaboration initiative (ARC), and Ryan Waggoner, SMA videographer, conducted a series of interviews with key members of Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.) and the Art & Technology exhibition (A&T) at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Interviewees were selected to represent the full spectrum of people involved in hybrid research practices-artists, scientists, and curators/facilitators. They include: Julie Martin, director of E.A.T.; Maurice Tuchman, head curator of A&T; Jane Livingston, co-curator of A&T; Robert Whitman, artist in both E.A.T. and A&T; Elsa Garmire, physicist and engineer in E.A.T.; and John Pearce, architect in E.A.T. This hour-long documentary, which premieres at the Hybrid Practices conference, unfolds the nature of the projects, the challenges encountered in cross-disciplinary collaboration and the impact of that collaboration, the role of language in collaboration, and the importance of these projects in a historical context. This film screening is part of the Hybrid Practices Conference. To learn more or register, visit http://www.spencerart.ku.edu/hybrid-practices.
