Event Description
Beth Cavener brings her zoomorphic portraits to life in this talk about her creative process and studio practice. Sculpted from solid masses of clay and hollowed out to their skins, Cavener's emotionally charged animal figures probe the human condition and pry at the edges of animal and human behavior. A recipient of numerous awards, Cavener has been an artist-in-residence at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia and the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, Montana. She received her BA in sculpture from Haverford College and her MFA from Ohio State University. Cavener's visit to KU includes working directly with visual art students and creating a large-scale ceramic sculpture, and culminates with this public talk. This is a qualifying event for students seeking Arts Engagement certification.
