Event Description
Rocket Grants provide direct support for innovative, artist-driven projects. The call for proposals for the 6th round of Rocket Grants opens January 12; the deadline to apply is March 23, 2015. Artists are invited to attend this launch event and reception to gain a clearer understanding of the types of projects the program funds and to benefit from the experience of six past award recipients: Karl Fundenberger (Cyclotrope Cinema), Dave Lowenstein (Give Take Give), Amber Hansen (The Story of Chickens: A Revolution), Judith Levy (NV in KC), Jarrett Mellenbruch (Haven), and Jessie Christian (Hard Fifty Farm Zine Mobile). Rocket Grants Program Coordinator Julia Cole will also be on hand to answer questions. Rocket Grants support projects that happen outside of traditional or established arts venues, challenge mainstream methods of production or presentation, add energy and diversity to arts activity in our area, and provide opportunities for creative growth. The program awards grants of up to $6,000 to individuals or groups working across all disciplines and media. The Rocket Grants program is a partnership of the Spencer Museum of Art and the Charlotte Street Foundation with funding provided by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
