Event Description
The architecture of Cairo provides a vast and fascinating corpus of monumental inscriptions, which served diverse religious, political, and dynastic purposes. Bernard O’Kane, professor of Islamic art and architecture at the American University of Cairo and project director of the Monumental Inscriptions of Cairo database, discusses the context of this form of public writing, its reception among Medieval audiences, and the role it played in furthering the aspirations of the rulers of Medieval Cairo. This is a qualifying event for students seeking Arts Engagement certification.
