Event Description
Join visiting artist and former Marine Folleh Tamba and KU students for a reading and discussion of poems written during and in response to World War I that have inspired Tamba's artistic practice. Conveying the viscera of combat via direct documentation, Tamba’s artwork invites viewers to touch, hear, and see actual elements of war - visual, audio, and tangible artifacts -- that place us inside the subconscious of a combat veteran before, during, and after his repeated deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. An exhibition of his work titled A Grunt's War Diary is on view in October at Kansas State University. This reading is part of the KU Centennial Commemoration of World War I, coordinated by the European Studies Program.
