Event Description
Artist Angelbert Metoyer discusses the hidden language of religion and how his work acts as a conduit to ancestral memory. Rooted in drawing, his practice includes painting, sculpture, performance, video and sound. Using materials gathered from his nearby surroundings to places as far afield as Outer Mongolia including coal, glass, tar and gold dust, Metoyer probes ideas about time and memory, waste and destruction, and teleportation, quantum physics and the cosmos. The resulting works of art, with their mythical creatures, star charts, and anatomical studies mine his own mixed-cultural past, America’s cultural complexity, and ancient and modern mythologies.
