Event Description
Celebrate Japanese art, customs, confections, and music with a series of activities staged throughout the Museum. Spend the day at the Spencer, or drop in at any time to enjoy the festivities. From 12:00-1:00, try your hand at calligraphy, origami, and hachimaki in the Museum lobby. From 1:00-2:00, enjoy lectures about the Japanese tea ceremony and seasonal Japanese sweets by Mindy Landeck, PhD Candidate, History and Ayako Mizumura, Assistant Director, Center for East Asian Studies. At 2:00, take a 20-minute tour of tea ceremony objects with SMA curator Kris Ercums, and the “Nature/Natural” exhibition with Ye Gee Kwon, Carpenter Foundation Intern of Asian Art. Each tour will repeat at 2:30. From 3:00-4:00, feel the power of taiko drumming with an interactive family-friendly performance by Three Trails Taiko.
