Event Description
Few pieces of legislation have had such an important impact on the museum profession in the United States as the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The act has affected how collections are managed, of course, but has also had repercussions in everything from governance, to staffing, to public programming. Director and Professor of Museum Studies at KU, Dr. Peter H. Welsh will reflect on his experiences in helping to shape the law in the late 1980s, as well as on some of the intended, and unintended, consequences of NAGPRA’S implementation.
