Event Description
THIS LECTURE HAS BEEN CANCELLED. WE REGRET ANY INCONVENIENCE. Dr. Dominique Cardon is Scientific Manager at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in France and is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking research on the history and archaeology of textile production and dyeing. Hear her discuss the red dyes used to color a group of Bronze Age textiles recently excavated in Xinjiang in northwest China. Some of her surprising findings make significant contributions to knowledge of textile practices in Bronze Age China and Central Asia. Cardon will put these findings in context by offering comparisons with dyes and practices in other ancient civilizations. This lecture, presented in conjunction with the symposium “Color in Ancient and Medieval East Asia,” is open to the general public.
