Event Description
Please join us at the Lawrence Senior Center, 745 Vermont Street, for an open house dedicated to the special quilting project with nationally known quilt artist Marla Jackson. This project brings together community members 55 years and older from all over Douglas County to share in the creative process of narrative art making. Ms. Jackson will have examples of her own quilts to illustrate how quilt-making and story-telling combine to create a beautiful piece of art. Ms. Jackson will also discuss her goals for the project and provide participants with more detailed information on how their stories will be translated into a narrative quilt over the duration of the project. This project is a collaborative effort with many area art agencies including the Spencer Museum of Art, the Douglas County Historical Society, the Territorial Capital/Lane Museum, and the Eudora and Baldwin Historical Society. If you are interested in joining the quilting project please plan to attend this open house or contact Rebecca Clancy, Leisure and Learning Specialist, at (785) 842-0543.
