Event Description
This installment of the Environmental Film Festival is presented by the Center of Latin American Studies. Filmed over nearly three years, Waste Land allows artist Vik Muniz as he journeys to his native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There, he photographs an eclectic band of “catadores”-self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Both the dignity and despair of the catadores is revealed as they begin to re-imagine their lives. Check back for showtime and additional details, TBA.
