Event Description
Did you know that public support for the Metropolitan Museum of Art has dropped $100 million in the past two years? Or that they paid Keith Christiansen $1,054,519 in 2009? Or that they spent $250,000 on lobbying last year?

Please join us at 2 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Spencer Museum of Art. Dr. Raquel Alexander, tax professor in the School of Business, is hosting a workshop on the basics of accounting and tax matters for museums.

The program is open to everyone.

Topics include:
Why tax-exempt status matters and how to avoid losing it
Tax breaks for donors
Reading a museum’s balance sheet and income statement
Using Tax Form 990 for benchmarking and competitive information
Governance: what is required and what is simply a good idea?

Dr. Alexander will use financial statements and tax returns from actual museums to illustrate key points. She will provide hand-outs and cookies.
