Event Description
Julie Nelson Davis is an associate professor of East Asian art at the University of Pennsylvania. Her primary research concerns Ukiyo-e (images of the floating world")and the arts of the Tokugawa period (1615-1868). Her book, Utamaro and the Spectacle of Beauty, was co-published by Reaktion Books and the University of Hawaii Press in late 2007. This talk is presented as part of the Murphy Lecture Fund series, sponsored by Spencer Museum of Art, Kress Foundation Department of Art History, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
