Event Description
D.K. Bhaskar is an explorer, author, international speaker, cultural and natural history photographer, and strong advocate for preserving vanishing world culture. He will speak on "The Eye of the Beholder: India through the Eyes of its Children" as part of KU's International Focus Series.

Bhaskar will give a slide presentation and talk with an exhibition of images. This project relates to Bhaskar's ongoing projects in rural India in which he works with children, giving them cameras and a bit of technical guidance. The children then produce their own work based on loose themes, such as "family" or "nature." What is revealed is an intimate look at India through their eyes, one that an outside photographer alone could never capture.

The International Focus Series is presented by the KU Center for Global & International Studies in collaboration with various KU Departments, including the Spencer Museum of Art, and Area Studies Centers within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This is an ongoing series of arts-related events--from the visual to performing arts and literature-with global and international scope. The theme for this Academic Year is "Nations & Identities." The 2011-2012 series will explore the idea of Art & Artists as an extension or expression of this theme.
