Full-length woman (identified as La Pia or “Pious One” modeled by Jane Burden Morris) seated with her hands crossed at her knees. She is wearing a blue and gold dress with a peach frock and blue and peach skirt. She has auburn curly hair to her shoulders, blue eyes, and looks out. There is a ledge in the foreground with a sundial, sheets of correspondence (identified as letters from her husband), a book (identified a prayer book), a rosary, and drapery. Greenery (ivy and fig leaves) behind the figure. Spears/lances and a banner below a window to the left with black birds (ravens), buildings with a bell, and a patch of sky. Rossetti designed the original gilded frame with wooden medallions in a medieval style.
